England goes ahead in the run towards the World Championship 2018 (Yahoo)

England has never been so near to organize a World Championship since it was local in 1966. The four days visit of a commission of six members of the FIFA that ended the last week can be considered as very successful, though the big boss of the football, the Swiss Joseph Blatter, observed that the principal adversary in this race will be Russia and not the couple Spain-Portugal, as it seemed at the beginning.

Everything indicates that the World Championship of South Africa 2010 and its complicated organization due to the infrastructure and culture of the big events within the football, left an important sequence and it will be difficult that the Africans will see in this time another similar contest, maximum since it is known that the FIFA suspended the so much divulged rotation of continents on October 29, 2007.

Since then, to be able to organize a World Championship it will be necessary to gather conditions of infrastructure, footballistic culture and within the possible, a certain history and social guarantee that everything will develop within certain canons and that is why, for the 2018 there appear only candidates such as Holland and Belgium (since they were the head quarters of the Eurocup-2000), England (a potency without any discussion), Russia (another economic potency with footballistic culture, though without a regular participation in the world championships), the duple Spain-Portugal, of great weigh in the sport and the United States of enormous growth, though there is against them that they have been head quarters recently in 1994, without too much success.

It should be taken into account, also, two not smaller deeds in this election of the head quarters of two consecutive World Championships that the Executive Committee of the FIFA will bear in mind on December 2 next, but specially for the first of them, that of 2018. In the first, they can present for none of the confederations of the countries that had been headquarters in the last two contests, namely, Africa (for South Africa 2010) and South America (for Brazil 2014).

Another fact is that the FIFA is not convinced about the World Championship organized in 2002 between two countries, South Korea and Japan, that not casually now appear as candidates to head quarters for the 2022, separately, in competition also with Australia, Qatar and the countries that also present for the 2018.

If that is so, for the 2018 there only remain England, Russia and the United States, though the first two have more chances due to aforesaid reason regarding the United States but if besides it is taken into account the scarce presence of Russia in the last World Championships the relative weigh that their league continues having even when finally their teams started to win European contests and that England lost by little the World Championship 2006 against
Germany, everything indicates that the rout for the headquarter 2018 is quite clear.

But there should be added another fundamental detail and it is the potentiality that is made of a head quarter when same also contains another event that may help to facilitate an organization and so it occurred that the International Olympic Committee (COI) made in favour of the Río de Janeiro over Madrid for the head quarter of the Summer Olympic Games 2016, knowing that they counted with the support of the already sure organization of the World Championship 2014 in all Brazil and not only this, also the American Cup 2015 and the Confederation Cup 2013.

In the case of England, the situation is to the contrary and with the knowledge of the FIFA that London has been already elected the head quarter of the Olympic Games 2012 it was easier that it may be also for the World Championship 2018, added to the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and the Rugby World Championship of in England and Wales in 2015.

This together with the reconstruction of Wembley and the new stadium of the Arsenal will serve England for the 2018, added to the enormous power of their league with players of the highest level, and their continues protagonism in the great contest as World Championships or Eurocup, in spite they have only imposed in the contest placed as local in 1966.

That is why the visit of FIFA’s commission was taken as a question of State and the six members of the entity, presided by the ex reporter and now president of the Chilean Federation, Harold Mayne Nichols, has been followed day and night by all the communication media at the service of the British Crown, in the hope that this almost unrepeatable opportunity will not be lost.

That is why the care will be taken that the First League does not touch the minimum of violence. Because it is known that this and not other was the reason that eliminated England to be the head quarter in the past and it seems they learned from the errors of the past.

The British press was careful also to point out the inopportune absence of the Prime Minister David Cameron, on holidays, replaced by Nick Clegg, when it is known that the FIFA observes every detail and when this would never happen with Russia and maybe for that reason, Blatter himself ascertained that the Soviets should not be left outside, though he prized the British candidature.

It is a way to say that nobody can trust FIFA and this entity is the one that, at the bottom, continues ruling the football of the world.

Inter of Porto Alegre, once more on the summit of America (Yahoo)

With several reinforcements of great importance, among them three Argentinean players, the Inter of Porto Alegre got to consecrate Champion of the prestigious Copa Libertadores de América, winning in an intense final in double match over Chivas of México and therefore, this Brazilian club won the right to represent in December the South American Continent at the next World Championship of Clubs of the Arabian Emirates.

Coinciding with the name of the winner of the European Champions League, the Inter of Italy, the Inter of Porto Alegre does not contain the classical characteristics of the Brazilian game and even more, their own directive commission is composed by several directives that are fans of the Argentinean team in the great contests, because since always the region “Gaúcha” of South Brazil has always identified more with the neighbour countries (Argentina and Uruguay) than with Brazil itself, a Continent within an enormous country.

Inter has already won, not long ago in 2006 the Copa Libertadores, when also surprised at the World Championship of Clubs in Japan nothing less but the Barcelona of Frank Rikjaard that they counted with a player formed in the “enemies lines” the Gremio of the same city, Porto Alegre.

Several of these players, as the defenders Indio or Bolívar, the midfielder Tinga, or the returned forwarder Rafael Sobís, though also with the addition of great players such as Giuliano (forwarder), Fabio Eller (defender), and the midfielders Kleber, Sandro (transferred to Tottenham) and Alecsandro (who will play with the Sporting Lisboa), with to the goalkeeper Renán (returned from the Spanish league) were the clue in getting this trophy.

Also the Argentines have made their contribution from the veteran and the good star of Roberto Abbondanzieri, -multiple hoarder of local and International trophies with Boca Juniors and not being taken into account in the Argentinean club, he was quickly incorporated by the Inter, though having lost the position before Renán-, Andrés D’alessandro, that after having played in the German, English and Spanish football after their beginnings in River Plate, not only it seems that he has found his place but that now he profiles to be convoked for the national team and the fighting midfielder Pablo Guiñazú, of great physical display in each of the matches.

Sport Club Internacional (so it is called with its full name), now proposes to win the “Brasileirao” (the strongest contest of Brazil, in this moment in dispute) trophy that it does not obtain since 1979, in times of great cracks such as Paulo Roberto Falcao, Batista, the Chilean Elías Figueroa, the goalkeeper Raúl or the forwarder Mauro Sergio, before entering into the World Championship of Clubs in December.

It was not an easy way for the Inter in this Cup in which they had to over pass two hard teams of Argentina such as Banfield in eights losing 3-1 at the first match and winning 2-0 on return), and Estudiantes, the former champion (distressingly eliminated at the last minute noting 2-1 with which they lost but it was sufficient after having won in Brazil l-0 at the first match), once again they could pass adjustly the semi final winning over San Pablo by 1-0 after having lost initially 2-1, neither was easy the final vs Chivas of México, because though they won well 1-2 in Guadalajara, they almost lost the whole match, and also withdraw losing 0-1 in the first time in Brazil though afterwards they won well by 3-2.

The Inter closes a campaign of eight triumphs , three ties and three defeats, with nineteen goals in favour and twelve against and with a change of coach in the middle of the dispute of the Cup that had to postpone its final phase due to the dispute of the World Championship in South Africa in the middle because the Uruguayan Jorge Fosatti had already started to conduce them (with him Liga de Quito turned out champion of the Copa Libertadores in 2008) and ended doing it with the Brazilian Celso Roth.

Inter’s victory also speaks about the enormous level of parity that there is in this moment in the South American Continent, after years of Argentinean pre-eminence, specially in the sixties, seventies and the first decade of the XXI century, as since 2004 the Brazilians imposed three times, twice the Argentineans and once the Colombians and the Ecuadorians, meanwhile the Uruguayans winners in eight opportunities of this trophy, are twenty two years without obtaining it since the Nacional won the Cup in 1988.

For the time being, Argentina continues being the country with more South Americans trophies (22), though in this opportunity, they could put no team among the four semi finalists (two Brazilians, one Mexican and one Chilean), Brazil is in the second positioning (14) Uruguay since a long stays in the third (8). Then at a long distance follows Paraguay (3), Colombia (2) and Chile and Equator (1).

Another of the interesting aspects of this Edition 51 of the history of the Copa Libertadores (that started to be disputed in 1960) is the protagonism of the Mexican teams they were having in the South American Competitions that since some time maintain positions of fight to conquer the title, as in this case of Chivas.

México, participant of the Copa Libertadores with invited teams, because officially they pertain to the Concacaf North, Centre and Caribbean Football Confederation) since the Gold Cup they can arrive to the World Championship of Clubs, they have no chance to reach it via the Conmebol, but they already showed their potency to such a point that they will be again part of the American Cup of teams in the edition 2011 in Argentina, in which Japan will also play.

No parece casualidad.

There are signals that Batista will be the Argentinean coach (Yahoo)

If Argentina is considered unpredictable, the football of this country must not be so different. Then there enters the absolute logic that if only a week ago it was clear that Sergio Batista would be an interim coach of the national team until October when there will meet a special commission of the AFA to determine who would be the responsible of the team until the World Championship in Brazil 2014, now everything indicates, without having occurred nothing special, that he will be confirmed in his position for four years.

As it uses to happen, there is not too much explanation to justify this decision that, due to other rumours that are being spread and for the declarations by the directives that surround the Argentinean team, is already taken, leaving aside all polemics for the succession of the position occupied by Diego Maradona until the World Championship in South Africa.

Everything indicates that the designation of Batista as interim, responds more to the contrary to what the press imagines. It was not that in the friendly match of the last Wednesday vs Ireland in Dublin (Argentina won by 1-0 with the goal by Angel Di María in offside position) nor that of the next September 7 in Buenos Aires will serve to put Batista on proof, but he will be confirmed if he does not make serious errors. Namely, what Batista ought not to do is to make mistakes, this is more than to do merits to show his knowledge.

What also seems clear is that if Batista continues as coach of the Argentinean team, even with a good project that goes through a change the Argentinean football from the bases (for example, to put down that the players get to be more familiar with the ball and replace it instead too much physical exercises) up to the tactic aspect (to play football with major possession of the ball), it will not be due to all of this nor for his footballistic understanding with the manager Carlos Bilardo, who now is in the antipodes of his thoughts.

On the contrary, if Batista gets (as it seems) to stay in this position, it is due more to the two important points; his good personal relation with Bilardo since he was player in the World Champion team in Mexico 1986, but more than this with Humberto Grondona, the eldest son of AFA’s president and vice president of the National Teams of the AFA and also once more, as it happened in 2008 with Maradona, it is avoided in that way to convoke the person that won all the surveys of the media, Carlos Bianchi. So, the pushing of the AFA to define soonest possible this question and the triumph vs Ireland helped in this sense.

The cold relation between Grondona and Bianchi is known, though it seemed that the results of the surveys could incline the decision in October, specially with Grondona needing to win urgently the Copa América in 2011 at home after eighteen years of none trophies. But it is also known that Bianchi do not even greet Bilardo, manager and today, who has to present AFA with the name of coaches to be valuated.

It is also known that Bianchi does not accept to conduce his teams with a manager above him and less, with whom is not ideologically compatible and to arrive to be the coach of the national team the context must be facilitator and now in the AFA there are no structure that allows to work as he would like.

Neither it is clear what will Batista do to make his job compatible with Bilardo. How would anybody who sustains that the ball should be well treated and to be similar with his system used by Josep Guardiola with the Barcelona, coexist in his position with somebody that bets on obtaining the result with tactics that are not based on the possession of the ball but on the rival’s mistake. In fact, consulted by some media, Batista said that with the manager “we know each other since a long time and we had only one misunderstanding that has been already cleared up in time of the juveniles”, but nothing is explained of the footballistic differences between both.

In fact, it should be seen if Bilardo was pleased that vs Ireland in Dublin Argentina came out as the Barcelona, with a scheme 4-1-2-3 with four defenders in line, already without Jonás Gutiérrez floating between the defensive line and of the midfielders, with Javier Mascherano a little behind as mid centre though escorted by two good possessors of the ball as Fernando Gago and Ever Banega, and three forwards with Messi by the right though without staying there, Higuaín by the mid and Di María more as forwarder by the left.

But there will be more changes since the last World Championship. For example, already in the second time vs Ireland it was seen that Batista will not appeal any more to the centrals as laterals (Burdisso and Heinze) and in their place he already entered pure lateral markers as Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City) and Emiliano Insúa (Fiorentina), and he still maintains chances to make return the veteran Javier Zanetti, at least until the Copa América. Also Esteban Cambiasso will have an opportunity and it is almost sure that Juan Roman Riquelme will return to the Argentinean team, confronted with Maradona in the passed cycle.

Batista had already together Riquelme and Messi in the Olympic Games in Peking in 2008 and the result could not be better. The Argentinean team retained then the golden medal won in Athens 2004 winning Brazil in semi-final by 3-0.

It seems that Batista has all chances to turn out the coach of the Argentinean team until Brazil 2014 but there does not seem to be coherent in the structure and very often, decisions so strong have more to do with personal feelings even when the protagonist himself has a plan of action.

Much of it all explains why there passed seventeen years that the Argentinean team does not obtain a trophy and that in the last sixteen editions of the Copa Libertadores, the Argentinean teams won only in six opportunities, though four of them, by Boca Juniors. It does not seem a casualty.
