After two years of absolute drought in which they were not even fighting for any trophy, everything indicates that the Closure Contest, that starts in Argentina, may be the one that will return Boca Juniors the team of the passed decade in South America to the first positions.
After the unexpected defeat of Claudio Borghi as coach in the former Aperture Contest (now with many chances to conduce the Chilean team), and an important investment of money in reinforcements, the directives, knowing that in December there will be elections in the club, and watching that many important teams will have their minds put in the dispute of the Copa Libertadores de América, understood that this is the last opportunity left for them to go ahead with the team.
With the base of some players of the better times (Riquelme, Palermo, Battaglia, Calvo), of the reinforcements of the last season, and now with the arrival of other three integrants of heavy weight, as the midfielders Somoza (Vélez), Rivero (San Lorenzo) and Ervitti (Bánfield), but particularly with the registration of a very strong coach such as Julio Falcioni, champion with Bánfield in 2009 and who almost reached it in 2006 when Diego Maradona advised not to register him, everything indicates that Boca is the team best positioned for this new contest.
The situation did not change so much in the fight as to the first places, only that Vélez Sársfield and Estudiantes de La Plata, without any doubt the best two Argentinean teams, return to have chances to play and win the Copa Libertadores, the one of the major prestige in South America and the winner of same classifies for the World Championship of Clubs.
In this opportunity, the other three Argentinean teams that participate in the contest will be Independiente, Argentinos Juniors and, for the first time in their history, Godoy Cruz of Mendoza.
For that reason, it is logical that these teams wash their hands regarding the local contest due to the physical condition and then, besides Boca there appear with more chance San Lorenzo, always conduced by Ramón Díaz, who already won a championship in 2007 in this club and Racing Club, that with Miguel Angel Russo as coach, and a correct policy of registrations and continuity of the group since a long time has mixed in uper positions, though since 2001 they do not obtain a trophy.
Other teams with possibilities to avail themselves of the relative absence of the five participants in the Copa Libertadores are Lanús, in a period of renewal, always having players coming out from the club, and Newells Old Boys, that made good incorporations counting with Roberto Sensini as coach.
Another incognita is what will happen with Estudiantes, having been left surprisingly by their coach Alejandro Sabella, a week before the beginning of the league, who was quickly substituted by Eduardo Berizzo (second to Marcelo Bielsa in the Chilean team).
On the side of the descends in category, there must be taken into account that the Closure Contest is the closure of the season 2010/11, therefore, when the teams are being defined they should descend to the second division (National B), what is determines by averages as from the last three complete seasons.
The two most menaced teams are those just ascended to the First, Quilmes and Olimpo of Bahía Blanca, meanwhile those that will come out in the positions immediate superiors of the two latter that for the time being are Gimnasia and Huracán, should play upon the end of the contest a replay against other two teams of National B thus to try to remain in the category.
The team that should fight more with Gimnasia and Huracán to avoid the matches of replay is nothing less but River Plate, that began the season in direct descending position and that already finished the Aperture Contest out of any danger, but at small distance of the latter, so they have all the championship to try to go away of the menace of a descend that they should have never suffered in their history.
River will have no reinforces of importance due to their economic problems, but besides they had to separate, once again, one of their idols, Ariel Ortega, affected by addiction problems and who already accepted to sign for All Boys, other of the clubs arrived from the National B though for the moment their campaign allows them to breath without problems to stay in the category.
Another situation to bear in mind is that of Tigre, team that is fighting with River to avoid the descend zone and in which debuts as coach the ex player of Boca and Villarreal, Rodolfo Arruabarrena, meanwhile that in Gimnasia will debut Angel Cappa, ex coach of River in the past contest , though in the team of La Plata there is another great news that changed the mentality of the club that in the last times had to suffer too much, the return of one of their idols, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, after fourteen years (he passed triumphally through Boca and through Major League Soccer of the United States).
Barros Schelotto communicated his decision to play this contest thus to leave the practice of professional football in the same moment that his comrade of attack during many years was leaving, the center forwarder of Boca Martín Palermo.
With an enormous quantity of players emigrated to other markets, the Argentinean football redoubles the bet in their bet in juveniles and veterans that are coming back to the country to play their last years before leaving the activity. What is immutable is the passion that always overpasses all the stadium.
