“There are 206 federations represented and 203 possible votes. The requested votes are 102 thus to obtain the presidency and Mister Joseph Blatter obtained 186 votes. Therefore, the president of the FIFA is Joseph Blatter”. The voice of the senior vice-president is the Argentine Julio Grondona, announced with an irritating slowness what the whole world knew several days before, when the other candidate, the Qatari Mohamed Bin Hammam, was obliged to withdraw from the fight having been accused of corruption (trying to buy suffrages for his candidature).
Blatter’s image, returning to the scenery of the Hallestadion, with the applauses of the other directives, with flowers in hand and giving one to a little girl, without the ovations of other opportunities, contrasted a lot to what occurred within the last three weeks and what certainly may be the FIFA in the last four years of mandate left until his retirement that he himself announced, in 2015.
