The neurosurgeon
doctor Leopoldo Luque (39 years old) declared before the San Isidro
Prosecutor's Office (a few kilometers north of Buenos Aires) that he was not
responsible in the domiciliary admission of Diego Maradona in a house in Tigre
until his death on November 25, at submit a letter and answer questions on June
28.
Luque, the main
defendant in the case in which Maradona's death is being investigated, blamed
the prepaid medicine company "Swissmedical" -which, according to him,
promised to provide nursing services, therapeutic companions and ambulances- by
maintaining that he as the psychiatrist AgostinaCosachov (35) “suggested” this type
of hospitalization but that they were not part of the formal medical team nor
were they the former footballer's family doctors.
"It is
clear from the file that there was a completely independent and foreign medical
group for home hospitalization, which had assigned doctors," said Luque,
who stressed that he did not have the structure, qualification, registration
and knowledge to carry out this home hospitalization.
Luque is charged
with "Simple homicide with eventual intention", a crime that provides
a penalty of between 8 and 25 years in prison and pointed out that his specific
function during Maradona's home hospitalization "was to control the
postoperative period" in reference to the surgical intervention of a
bruise on the brain.
The team of the
San Isidro Attorney General's Office headed by John Broyad has been
investigating Maradona's death for six months and has already received the
report of the medical expertise that concludes that Luque “did not guarantee
his due follow-up with cardiological controls and studies, nor did he summon
specialists in cardiovascular, hepatic and renal matters, as his condition
required, leaving his fate to his odds”.
It also says
that "he systematically underestimated the symptoms compatible with heart
failure reported to him by people outside the medical team" and that
"he did not prepare a medical record of the victim" or establish
"the relevant data on the patient's diagnosis, therapy and illness."
The statements
were made between June 14 and 28 and were subpoenaed in addition, the nurses
Ricardo Almirón (37) and Dahiana Madrid (36), the coordinator of nurses Mariano
Perroni (40), the doctor coordinating the home hospitalization Nancy Forlini
(52), the psychologist Carlos Díaz (29) and the psychiatrist Cosachov .
On the other
hand, the program “Periodismo Para Todos” (PPT) of Channel 13 reported last
Sunday night about the signing of a contract between the representative of
Maradona, MatíasMorla, and the TNG company (led by Alejandro Trasmonte),
habitual supplier of goods to the Argentine State (such as photo fines for bad
parking or rental of digital equipment) to offer to the Mint (Coin Factory) the
factory of notes, coins and commemorative stamps with his image in order to use
the image of the former football player.
The agreement
was signed between "Sattvica" (Morla's company) and Ibertest (the
owner of TNG). The director of the Mint –always according to the PPV program-,
Rodolfo Gabrielli, acknowledged having met with Trasmonte to hear his proposal
on the impressions of Maradona's banknotes and there were even contacts with
the Central Bank although the Government of Alberto Fernández argues that we
must now wait for the end of the succession between Maradona's heirs (his
children Dalma, Giannina, Diego Jr, Jana, Diego Fernando and Eugenia, to
advance the project.
There is also
talk of another contract between Morla and Trasmonte to offer the State a show
called "Maradona Experience" for the anniversary of his death and
Morla's lawyer and representative, Mauricio D’Alessandro, added that they are
trying to sell this proposal abroad, something that would seem to be accepted
by the lawyers of the heirs as something "profitable" for them and
for the State.
Mauro Baudry,
lawyer for Diego Fernando -Maradona's youngest son- and his mother, Verónica
Ojeda, calculated the amount that could be obtained as a profit of between 10
and 30 million dollars.
